Every project begins with a story, and every story is an act of perspective—a way of seeing the world. My job as a director is to ensure every performance, every image, and every creative decision expresses that perspective with emotional honesty.

Working closely with actors and crew, I create an environment built on trust, collaboration, and discovery, where emotional truth can emerge. For me, the best moments in filmmaking aren't engineered. They emerge through a shared commitment to the story and the people telling it.

Douglas Forrester is a New York–based writer, director, producer, and educator whose work is rooted in emotionally driven storytelling, unforgettable performances, and cinematic imagery. His debut feature, Carry the Darkness, a supernatural thriller set during the Satanic Panic of the early 1990s, was hailed as “an effectively spooky and pointed examination of what it’s like to be an adolescent outsider in a time of societal turmoil.” The film will be released on August 7, 2026, following a successful festival run. He is also currently in production on B.A.R.K. Ranger: A Dogumentary, a documentary exploring how park rangers, dogs, and America’s national parks reconnect us with the natural world — and ourselves.

No matter the format or genre, Douglas approaches every project as a collaborative process of discovery. By building trust with actors and crew, he creates an environment where emotional truth can emerge naturally, allowing performance to shape the film’s visual language in service of its story and perspective.

In addition to filmmaking, Douglas has taught directing, screenwriting, film production, and cinema studies at AMDA College of the Performing Arts and Hofstra University. His years in the classroom have strengthened his belief that great storytelling is built on curiosity, empathy, and collaboration — values that continue to shape his work on set.

Douglas is currently developing new feature films while expanding into episodic television, commercials, and music videos. He is drawn to projects with a distinct perspective, emotional complexity, and collaborators who believe the best films are discovered together.
